Dogs and cats with long hair are prone to getting mats. Although regular brushing can help prevent mats from forming, there are times when they will form close to the skin or become quite large. In these cases, mats can be very difficult to remove and are especially uncomfortable for your pet. We do not recommend trying to brush out or shave severe mats yourself due to a high risk of injury to your pet. If you believe your pet has mats which may be causing discomfort, please call us. We can attempt to brush them out or we can shave them if they are too difficult to remove. Shaving allows for new hair to grow in the affected area, which is less likely to tangle if it is maintained properly.
